Manufacturing Custom: With Organic Systems

“Even if the “form” was already well-known, previously discovered, carved from “commonplaces,” before the interior poetic light was turned upon it, it was a mere object for the mind. But the soul comes and inaugurates the form, dwells in it, takes pleasure in it.
-Bachelard, The Poetics of Space

Manufacturing Custom, A project created by Timothy Briggs (Me) in the Industrial Design department at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) addresses the future of manufacturing and how it will create true custom forms and functions for each user in real time. By utilizing organic systems of mutation, manufacturing will be able to manufacture custom products based on a combination of genetic codes.
